June 2009 Meeting (11 posts)

    Thanks to the small but handsome group of folks who attended our meeting in May. We talked casually around a comfortable table and hopefully learned a few things and got inspired to be at work the next day. Thanks as well for Louisville Web Group for sponsoring! I'd like to be a bit more prepared for June and figure out meeting topics, presentations if possible, etc.

    If anyone has topics they'd like to see covered specifically, please speak up. There was some discussion about Facebook Connect the other night and I'd be willing to talk a bit more about that if people were interested as we've recently worked on a few FBC enabled sites. Perhaps a good time to also have others discuss the use of OpenID or other similar services to bridge/enable sites with 3rd party gateways and APIs.

    I also thought about: discussions of Progressive Enhancement; writing on the web (there are a few in the group who maintain blogs/journals) and how to succeed; maintaining sites with version control (other solutions besides SVN and cover SVN for those new to the concept);

    I'll also throw out a quick link to some of Bryan's suggestions previously posted as well: http://www.refreshlouisville.org/forums/topic.php?id=66

    My vote would be for one of those topics.

    I would definitely be interested in attending if version control was discussed and explored. I'm about knee deep in it at the moment and would love to know more from people with experience.

    So, there has been little activity and discussion lately. I proposed these topics, but due to my schedule, prior commitments and the time it took to get this far, I won't be able to attend a meeting before the end of the month unless it is on the 29th or 30th. Not that I have to be in attendance, but it will be hard to organize and plan if I'm not going to attend. If someone else can organize something, including topic for something prior to the 29th, please feel free, let me know, etc.

    If I don't hear anything else, I'll probably just plan for a meeting on the 30th and I'll discuss SVN and version control. Look forward to hearing any more feedback from others.

    I'd vote for the 30th.

    30th it is! I just don't feel like continuing to wait and then rushing around trying to schedule things last minute. As always, looking for a sponsor. The topic will be version control specifically SVN with some sort of presentation given by myself. If others would like to talk CVS, GIT or others, i'd be happy to hear more about them. I plan to have a projector and my MBP. Taproom 7pm? Be there.

    30th sounds good. Topic sounds good. See you then!

    As usual, I'm game. If you want to split some food costs, hit me up.
    I'll make sure to bring an extra mini-dvi converter.
