    digging the concept of this:

As the web evolves, next generation protocols will begin to replace http. By explicitly using "http://domain.com" in your links you are forcing your viewers of the future into using an obsolete protocol. By using "//domain.com" you will guarantee the protocol of tomorrow will work with your pages of today.

Check it (implemented on this link.. any issues?).

Works fine! I implemented this on my own website, out of curiosity. I think it's a good concept, but I wonder what protocols are going to replace http and, more importantly, when? How far back in time do we need to be ready for the future?

perhaps you have too much Marty McFly on your brain. There are so many hidden references and influences in your response to Back To The Future the movie itself, it's title and soundtrack.

so i noticed that if you subscribe to the forum feed, and view a post in your reader that doesn't use http:, the resulting link looks like this: http://www.refreshlouisville.org//www.myfonts.com. So the feed is just prepending the feed base url in place of having no http. bugger.

Ha! I just re-read my response up there and it's totally BTTF.

Also, a note about dropping http: in WordPress. I guess we don't have control over doing so when using URL-generating tags. We'd have to otherwise edit the core, I think, which would be really dumb. Speaking of CMSs (new topic coming)…
