<title>Todd Budnikas on "Salesforce.com dropping IE support for new features"</title>

<description>&#60;p&#62;This is just another great step in the right direction. With the majority of Salesforce users likely on Windows machines and many of them relying on Salesforce to run their business this will likely create a big push. I don't know that it will be earth shattering, but I like seeing a business moving this way that will likely have a huge impact on others, not just a gentle nudge.&#60;/p&#62;

<description>&#60;p&#62;quick follow-up. Viget Studios posted a video from Google software engineer Matt Cutts on the Google Webmaster Central Channel that seems to quell the debate:&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;a href=&#34;http://www.viget.com/inspire/ending-the-great-h1-debate/&#34; rel=&#34;nofollow&#34;&#62;http://www.viget.com/inspire/ending-the-great-h1-debate/&#60;/a&#62;&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;I suppose we never really got too much into the debate of if you can use more than 1, it was always a debate of should it be used for the logo or a heading. Both, if you deem it necessary.

<title>Todd Budnikas on "WaSP InterAct"</title>

<description>&#60;p&#62;Came across this today in the &#60;a href=&#34;http://webstandardsgroup.org/mail/guidelines.cfm&#34;&#62;Web Standards Group mailing list&#60;/a&#62;:&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;blockquote&#62;&#60;p&#62;
&#34;It is with great pleasure that we unveil the WaSP InterAct Curriculum, an initiative that aims to unite industry, educators, and practitioners with one common goal: to improve the quality of education that the next generation of web professionals have available to them.&#34;
&#60;/p&#62;&#60;/blockquote&#62;
&#60;p&#62;There has been a lot of talk lately about the idea of school reform in terms of Web Standards education. It seems the idea of this curriculum serves to help the cause and make that easier, and who can argue? I've often thought about teaching, adding yet another task to my growing list of things to do, but what better way to educate the youth and help grow the community that is building here and elsewhere on the web.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Not sure how much discussion to expect here, maybe just making this visible to those that were unaware. If anyone is interested in teaching an teaming up, I'd be up for discussions. Also, if anyone has been through the process, might make for a good discussion at one of our upcoming meetings.

<title>Todd Budnikas on "Preparing for HTML5 with Semantic Class Names"</title>

<description>&#60;p&#62;i should have added that I also firmly believe in the transcending CSS approach meaning that always marking up a div with class=&#34;section&#34; if it's not necessary to the structure of the page is not my goal. I'm more speaking to the semantics and when you find yourself in situations where you &#60;strong&#62;must&#60;/strong&#62; rely on additional elements to get your CSS to succeed. I wonder then if html 5 will make that approach less desirable as search engines will start to rely on accurate markup to define areas of a page.

<description>&#60;p&#62;I'm sure a lot of us do this anyways, but I think is probably good practice for everyone to get into. I also like the fact that maybe we can start to standardize our markup more. We've always talked internally about setting guidelines, much like &#60;a href=&#34;http://www.microformats.org&#34;&#62;MicroFormats&#60;/a&#62;. Maybe with the help of others, we can settle on some conventions.&#60;/p&#62;

<title>Bryan V. on "Proper Use of H1 tag Debate"</title>

<description>&#60;p&#62;I read the 456 Berea Street article, and see where they're coming from on the suggested solution, but I'm with Joe about not repeating H1 tags in your document. I haven't been as stringent about 508 validation lately, but it's probably best to stick with one H1 and degrade from there. If it's potentially confusing to someone using a screen reader, it's more than likely confusing to a Google or Yahoo bot.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;I searched the official Google Blog for &#34;h1 tag&#34; to see if I noticed anything about their search preference, and only came up with this:&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;a href=&#34;http://code.google.com/p/doctype/wiki/ArticleSemanticsOfH1&#34; rel=&#34;nofollow&#34;&#62;http://code.google.com/p/doctype/wiki/ArticleSemanticsOfH1&#60;/a&#62;

<description>&#60;p&#62;i most recently was reading through the topic posted by Roger Johansson at 456 Berea Street:&#60;br /&#62;
&#60;a href=&#34;http://www.456bereastreet.com/archive/200901/headings_heading_hierarchy_and_document_outlines/&#34; rel=&#34;nofollow&#34;&#62;http://www.456bereastreet.com/archive/200901/headings_heading_hierarchy_and_document_outlines/&#60;/a&#62;&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;topic is closed for comments, but some good discussion there. However, in the end, i was still left unclear as to the approach that makes the most sense to me. I'm not &#60;strong&#62;so&#60;/strong&#62; worried about screen readers, as I am considering search engines, and keeping semantically accurate. My gut tells me that CNN as the heading for every page of their site doesn't tell me what the difference between the politics page and the world news page.

<description>&#60;p&#62;A quick search yields &#60;a href=&#34;http://www.searchengineherald.com/seo-basics-the-h1-h2-h3-tags/&#34; title=&#34;SEO Basics -- The h1 h2 h3 tags&#34;&#62;The Search Engine Herald&#60;/a&#62; (don't know anything about their credibility) saying that the h1 should reflect the title tag (article title, not identity title) for better SEO.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;It seems sensible to agree, but I haven't see any testing nor done any myself.
